Neville, Neville, Neville!!!
How can you say such nasty things about lovely little Rodney?
One to two tracks an album is great, breaks up Gerald a bit, and makes him
more impressive when he's back. This juxtaposition of different voices is
crucial to BA albums

Totally agree with you on Pete deFreitas, the drumming on the Bunnymen's
first 3 albums is incredible and wholly original, but the thing about john
is you don't have to check the credits of which songs he plays drums on,
you know cos they're so good.

Constants then: - Gerald, John (cos none of the other drummers
haveanywhere near as good) and Wojtek - cos love it as much as I did to
see Gerald enjoy himself wigging out on the latest tours, our mascot was
well missed.

me down with fork lightning oh lord of music - but I beg to differ about
Rodney. Honestly? I know he's a decent fella 'n all but this isn't about
that. I think his songs added a naff dimension to the BAs. There... said
it... done... I'll be the Billy Nomates and the Xmas gig from now on!

Apart from Saturation Point and the BAs, who nose dived slightly after
he left in the early 90s (or whenever it was - glad he's back though), I
believe John was also playing in a band called Witness. John Langley is
up there with people like Pete De Freitas from the Bunnymen as all time
fab drummers. Talk about constants - should be John/Angelo and Gerard.

all--

i want to echo what was said about rodney allen. he's a teriffic
songwriter
(his contributions to swagger and beatsongs being my faves), a great
singer,
and a lovely guy (did anyone know that rod's sister bev married alex
lee?).
to my mind, the line-up can change but 2 constants must remain in order
for
it to be the blue aeroplanes: gerard and rodney.

as to the live show--i've seen them too many times to count (but
haven't
seen them since about 1998. there were some great guys in the band
post
beatsongs, but that line-up was perhaps the best live band i've ever
seen.
subsequent versions of the planes weren't able to match that, quite (to
my
mind) and i lost a bit of interest, pining for the 'good old days."

does anyone know what john langely is up to???
