My girlfriend and I were there on vacation for several days in '04. We did
the standard tourist stuff.. Empire State Bldg, Coney Island, WTC site,
Times Square, Central Park, etc. I'm sure Kate can give you an "insider's"
list of cool stuff to do/see. The Intrepid is a floating air and space
museum and is pretty cool if you're interested in that sort of thing.

We stayed at the Radio City Apartments, which has great deals considering
their location and what you get for the money. You should definately check
them out before making the decision on where you're going to stay. They're
in mid-town, right next to Rockefeller Center and just around the corner
from Times Square.

If you do plan on or are interested in doing a lot of the touristy stuff,
check out CityPass. You buy a bundle of admission tickets to a lot of the
more common attractions for a reduced price.

You'll probably want to get a MetroCard for transportation. There's not a
lot you can't get to by subway and the MetroCard is the cheapest way to
use it.

Hope that helps.

PS - I have some pictures from that trip on my website, if anyone's
interested. <http://sthomas.net/go/pics>
