Everyone should like him! He is an amazing artist, and like so many great
artists, has much wider appeal amongst his peers (from M.Stipe to a certain
G.Langley) than amongst the general public. Underwater Moonlight by the
Soft Boys is in my top 5 lps ever.
Take out the yips from The Yip Song and its still a great song. And the
drumming on it is amazing.
For a great intro to Jimi Hendrix, the Radio 1 sessions album is fantastic.
The best Hendrix I've ever heard. There is sooo much dodgy live stuff out
there that isn't worth the vinyl its pressed on, but those BBC recordings
are gold dust.
Hem are a band that have passed me by - I know nothing about them. Ani
Difranco is ace though. Finally saw her live in Liverpool last year - great
gig.

Oh yes Paul, definitely I know I SHOULD like him, but its not so much that I
dont, but that I just CAN'T! Ive tried mate, honest! But its all that
quirkiness, it just get on me nerves! Lightbulbs and fish and egyptians -
it just doesnt make any sense to me! And that 'yip yip' one from
yesterday??! GAAAAAH!
Aforementioned mate is a MASSIVE fan, loves him and the Soft Boys to bits,
has tried (or did do, until we fell out!) for nigh on 20 years to convince
me that its worth the fuss, but I just dont get it.
Sadly, I have to admit the same sentiment for Jimi Hendrix and I KNOW thats
wrong!
I like Hem though. And Ani DiFranco. Does that count?

And Kate... I want you to know that after I went offline last night, all I
could bloody hear in my head was "lack of involvement with the father or
over involvement with the mother can result in lack of ability to relate a

of that song in your head so I had to keep starting from the beginning over
and over and over again - and I can't bloody STAND Robyn Hitchcock! ;o) I
only know a few of the songs coz I had a mate once who insisted on putting
them on compilation tapes for me in the hope I'd grow to like him!
Me:
You can't stand Robyn Hitchcock?!?! Say it ain't so! One of the great
British underground mavericks, perversely more popular in the States now
than over here. I reckon there is probably quite a bit of crossover between
Planes fans and Hitchcock fans (Nick W who posts here is, but if I remember
rightly PV2 doesn't share this enthusiasm!)
He's playing at the Fleece Thursday 26th Jan, and I can't wait!
