Re: Avihay's answer

as an American on this list I just wanted to chime in
briefly.
I don't agree with the leadership in this country.
I don't agree with war - especially religious wars.
I am quite aware of how the US has funded these groups
in the past and as many of the facts that are
possible.
But the situation in the Middle East is complex and
not about to be solved on a mailing list for a band.
We are all entitled to our opinions and all have
different experiences.
Up until recently Americans had no reason to feel fear
because so little actually happened on our soil - I've
travelled and had exposure to terrorism and how it
changes your life - and your freedoms - how a car
parked on a street for a week or longer can be a
threat not just an inconvenience. Or trash cans in a
train station or a stranger on a bus who looks
uncomfortable.
Yes, Americans traditionally have been complacent -
because they didn't understand - but I had alot of
friends and coworkers in the World Trade Center.
We aren't all insensitive - and saying that we are a
mirror of our government's actions is just as bad as
saying that every Muslim is a terrorist - or that
every Irish American (me) funds the IRA and helps get
them guns and bombs.
All I know is that if world leaders can't solve the
problems...
I appreciate hearing other viewpoints and being made
aware of how it feels firsthand...but verbally
accusing people of their ideologies on a mailing list
meant for discussing a band's music etc, isn't the
right forum.
Avihay, I wish you peace and more importantly peace of
mind.
The world is a messed up place...
"This is not my country, I just live here -" but I am
glad I do.
Kate
