this is all only relevant if you accept the fact that cobain had as much
to
say or was as meaningful to rock & roll as someone like morrison.

The Doors? There were some bits that were interesting lyrically (Horse
Latitudes), and some bits that were interesting musically. But...
(sorry if I sound like a P.C. English teacher here) it's a
post-adolecent male fantasy. "Look at me! I'm sexually active!" I
hate it when guys posture, vying for attention. And that's what
Morrison always struck me as, a poseur.
If he hadn't died, he would have just faded away, the lifespan of that
sort of thing is so limited...
It seems to me guys like Morrison, Keith Moon, Kurt Cobain, Hendrix,
etc. are all sort of fated to die young. They burn out so quickly. If
Cobain had lived... what would he be doing now? Music? Or would he be
living like Syd Barrett?
I honestly can't ever see Cobain dumping the angst schtick that he
became famous for. The guy was pissed off, angry, depressed, etc. He
would have had to have taken YEARS to sort that out.
And when the enevitable would have happened, namely, his audience
outgrowing him, what would he have done then? Would he have become
Alice Cooper or Kiss, who waited 15-20 years for a new crop of souls?
Would he have pulled a Bowie and re-invent yourself countless times?
Kurt pops up in Berlin and records a brilliant new album? I can't see
it.
Hey, it must be Friday. And I've eaten too many doughnuts.

P.S. I love what The Kinks did-- thinking man's pub rock. But I
agree. The whiney voice puts me right off.
