I finally gave up. Bought a USB turntable and ordered the lp. Hey, now I
can start listening to the thousands of other vinyl records I've had to
store away since leaving my turntable to my son a few years ago. By the
way, he's finally become a huge BA fan, and for Christmas I bought a bunch
of those outdated cd thingies as a present for him, even though he
regularly downloads all kinds of great music. He was very happy! So, Blue
Aeroplanes, come back to Boston, there's a whole new generation waiting to
experience you live!!! Oh, and the first vinyl I listened to? I know what
you're all thinking I'm gong to say... no, it wasn't BA. It was the Kipper
Family's brilliant Christmas album "Arrest These Merry Gentlemen." Is
there a prize for being the first one to mention the Kipper Family on this
page??

Ahhh. Glad I poked the bear. I responded that way because this topic has
been discussed ad nauseam. As most of the members of this list know, I
purchased the record as soon as it came out, recorded it, ripped it MP3s,
then offered the MP3s to anyone who wanted them as long as the band didn't
have a problem with it. I never heard from the band with their approval,
so
maybe that's an argument you can make with them rather than yet again
complaining they haven't run out and invested in the soon to be obsolete
CD
medium.

D'you think the band intended to end up looking like fat old timers
playing
to seventeen people in a pub whilst sounding like shite? That's what they
are now, and how they'll be remembered if they carry on with this unique
marketing ploy.
Steve Wilson and Tim Bowness also hate the way music is treated
nowadays..but even tho' they'd rather have us listen to their albums as a
total concept rather than flicking from track to track and dis-respecting
the music, they make their art available in whatever medium fans want to
buy
it.
1. because they actually have fans.
2. because they actually care about their fans.
Your comment is arrogant bullshit.

Tell your friend David to stop being so cheap and buy a good turntable so
he
can listen to the music as the band intended.

Anthony
You could argue that, putting it on itunes, spotify or sampling on your
website is a lot cheaper than investing in outdated vinyl.

But of course as soon as it is out there digitally it will be pirated,
depriving the band of any income at all for their craft.

Selling just a few copies on vinyl also deprives the band of lots of
income
or exposure.

Hm. ?I keep asking this question: ?that really what they want? ?
It's impossible to make a pile of money as a cult band these days. ?And if
you're a cult band, exposure is limited to begin with. ?So I'm not sure
what the deal is, but it ain't money and it ain't fame.
Must be art.
