all- couple things. could the gentleman who is currently recording the 'planes provide us with a run-down of the current line-up? much appreciated. and, if you're in contact w/ gerard langley, you might want to ask him about a track i cut with my friend, james lee waaay back in the heady post-swagger pre-beatsongs days. it was an aeros tribute/parody called 'the decline of western furniture' by a (fake) outfit we called the 'mauve helicopters.' there was, as i recall, actually some talk of gerard releasing it as a b-side a long time ago. he may still have a copy (i, myself, only have a 2-minute fragment); again, it was done quite a while ago, but it's rather funny. a reverent piss-take with pretty decent gerard/rodney impersonations. just a bit of odd ephemera for the dyed-in-the-wombat fanatic.

peace, love and tartar sauce,

mark helm

I think you're right - it was the festival at Roskilde. And wasn't that the setting for the infamous press conference with Wendy James (remember her!!!) generally flaunting herself in typical manner which was interrupted by Rodney heckling some personal comments from the back??? I remember the news report in Select mag back then with the headline, Rodney Allen, Mega Star... Could have been at Reading come to think of it though.

Well stone the bloody crows, I've just been to the farmers' market in
Bristol on the way in to work and bumped into Hazel Winter, who was in the
band at that time (her last ever gig with them if memory serves).

She said that they had just come from Roskilde, and there was some sarky
comment by Gerard but not as part of the set. Evidently they wanted to do
Pony Boy, but had to drop it due to time constraints, and Gerard quipped
afterwards that they got their set cut because they were "only a local
band".

I'd played her my off-the-radio recording of the set a couple of years ago,
and she also complained about her guitar not being far enough up in the mix
for the first couple of numbers!

I think Gerard was also annoyed at the time as the local paper here, the
Bristol Evening Post, had done a small piece on the "local band playing the
Pyramid Stage", but the picture they'd used was of Hazel in her silver
sparkly dress rather than one of him!
