You can listen to the Steve Lamacq tribute show that was originally
broadcast on Tuesday evening at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/index.shtml?logo
and click the link to the show (its there somewhere - easy to find). I
listened to it last night, and its all tracks from various Peel sessions
from throughout the years. No Planes unfortunately, but there was a Fall
track, plus an excellent version of Love Will Tear Us Apart, a great Culture
track and far too much more to mention.
Recommended.

Don't mention The Fall. I did once, but I think I got away with it.
Needless to say, am gutted.
Noel Edmonds alive - John Peel is dead.
Never has there been more definite proof of the non-existence of God.
Coat, get my, but it's what I think.

I'm sure we've all got somebody's Peel session somewhere. I can't claim
to have followed his radio show that avidly but I've got loads to thank him
for. In particular, he championed Tangerine Dream in the early 70s, who are
one of my favourites. And, of course, he was always a big advocate of The
Fall.
He was one of those broadcasters who was always going to be there.
Strange now that he's not. Irreplaceable, of course.

I think that all of us lovers of non-mainstream music are sad at the
moment
following the death of John Peel. The broadsheets seem to have gone
to town
on him today, and quite right too. Someone has said that he's the
most
important or influencial person in popular music of the past 40
years, and
for non-mainstream music its difficult to argue against that. He also
came
across as a thoroughly decent, likeable human being, who just
happened to be
extraordinarily passionate about music.
He will be missed by musicians as much as listeners.
RIP John.
