Another bristol boy here. I remember wandering across the field at Ashton
Court Festival, probably a bit drunk, I have no idea in which year, and
coming across a band singing a song about Severn Beach. Can remember a
couple of gigs at the Victoria Rooms as well, again I'm hazy on the years.
I guess the "blowing the PA" incident at the Fleece that PV2 remembers may
have actually been when they had a "noise limiter" or something that the
Council at the time insisted on as part of their live music licence. It was
basically a decibel meter, which shut down the PA when things got too loud.
I remember it being tripped at a couple of gigs there, although I missed the
92 Xmas gig as I was abroad. There was a similar noise limiter in the
Brewhouse (now the Croft) when I used to promote the odd gig there. It
never affected me as I only promoted acoustic gigs, but I did note that the
sensor had a sock permanently taped over it!

I'm a Bristol boy, and for me it was a Christmas gig in 1992ish at the
Fleece. Stuck behind the tallest man on earth, as usual, I ended up sat on
the fag machine and watching Wojtek bouncing balloons into the crowd. This
was at a time when Hazel was in the band, funnily enough, and the gig ended
with the band blowing the PA during a particularly rowdy 'Pony Boy'.
I was hooked from there, really.

Friendsloversplanes!
....this thread is turning into a where did you meet the Blue Aeroplanes
thing. Thanks Jenny, & welcome.
I'm a Bristol boy, & can't remember the first time I saw the Aeroplanes.
Saw the Art Objects at Trinity Hall in November(?) 1979....Gerard was then
the obvious future of rock'n'roll! Wojtek danced & John L. drummed. We were
very young and innocent so arrived for 'doors open' at 8pm...think the Art
Objects took the stage at about 1am. Happy days! Since then I must have seen
them (Aos/BAs) a million times or so, and, really, I have never been
disappointed, never seen them going through the motions, always seem to be
giving it 100%, what electric guitars were invented for.....
peace & love
