Gutted I missed Hazel's gig, but thanks for the report PV2 - glad she
was on form. I'll see if I can find out any more news on the album and
any more gigs.

According to the new Venue magazine (page 26), Gerard is playing at the
Cube backed by Fuzz against Junk and Paul Bradley. Can't be bothered to
type out the entire article, but its basically Gerard doing poetry (it
says by people like Auden and MacNeice, so whether there will be any of
his own I don't know) over backing music. I know Billy, the bass player
in FAJ (and also The New Acoustics and currently Robert Plant's band as
well), who put me on to this a while ago, and Paul Bradley, and it should
be an interesting night if nothing else.

Once again, its a bloody Friday evening so the likelyhood of me making
it down there is very slim indeed, as I'm normally looking after my
littl'un on Fridays, and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to get out of
this one as my ex is rehearsing with her band that night. There seems to
be a conspiracy going on against me attending any BA related gigs
happening....

  Yours on the grassy knoll

  >Alas, I had a problem with my email last week and couldn't remind you
West Country folks that Hazel Winter was playing the Folk House in Bristol
on Friday 30th May.
  >
  >She played a blinder with her three-piece backing band, all topped off
with weird projections on the wall behind. If you've ever heard Hazel and
know her style (Kristin Hersh meets PJ Harvey is the best I can do to
describe), then you can imagine how must scarier her songs are with
surreal home-cinema visuals. One piece was even accompanied by the
nightmarish bit of 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' where they take
a boat through a tunnel and get faster and faster while Gene Wilder's face
gets bigger and bigger on camera. It's frightening, even when you're not
drunk!
  >
  >Anyway, her new songs are powerful but difficult to take in, hearing
them only once. Fans of her first album 'Put Away the Sharp Knives' won't
be disappointed. The crowd was small but hugely supportive and I hope
she'll be keen to play another gig when the new album is released.
