Somebody was asking a while back about John Peel's latest All Time Festive
50, which was compiled a few weeks ago on the basis of listeners' votes
for
their favourite ever songs. In a sad example of blatant work-displacement
activity, here is not only the latest All Time 50, but also for comparison
the All Time 50 Peel broadcast in 1982 which I think was the last time he
did this. The similarity's amazing really. The JD/Pistols hegemony limps
on! It's like, didn't anyone do any DANCING in the last 20 years? And what
do all those Banshees and Killing Joke fans listen to these days, I
wonder?
