I would expect Aeroplanes fans to be fans of the Fall if for no other
reason than the Jazz Butcher's 'Southern Mark Smith' is allegedly about
Gerard Langley.  And that makes sense because they're both incredibly cool
(i.e. too hip) bands.  Although the 'planes are a bit more melodic ... The
Fall plays without monitors - how cool is that?

As for the Smiths, we can tell Johhny Marr was the talent in that band by
listening to Morrissey's solo work.  I saw Morrissey on TV once and
couldn't get over how much he reminded me of Jim Nabors.

I saw an interview with Morrissey once about Manchester bands - his blind
spot was Joy Division.  Personally, I put Joy Division up there with the
Velvet Underground ....

How does Joy Division rate with people who don't like the Fall, I wonder.
I think they're similar.
