Blimey! We're getting pretty talkative aren't we? I hope people don't
mind the non-Planes chat, I certainly prefer mail-lists where chatter
is allowed.
Various things from the weekend:
The Fall - wouldn't be surprised to hear the odd hidden gem on recent
records, but the effort needed to keep up.....Jonathan, you say you saw
them in a pub in Aberdeen - which pub? Are you a fellow Aberdonian then?
Throwing Muses - Hunkpapa is great, but I reckon they never beat the
debut album. Saw a double bill of them and the Pixies once (at the
Venue in Aberdeen), one of the best gigs ever...
Loud choruses, quiet verses - ...which reminds me, the Pixies were doing
that back then.
Peel's 50 - I thought he was giving them up, as he himself is pretty
dismayed at the dull conservatism of the voting. I'm sure the lists
don't reflect his whole taste at all, which seem scarily eclectic.
Nick Drake - BIG BIG fan, all the records are great, start with
Fives Leaves Left and Bryter Later and I'm sure anyone would be
hooked. Except maybe Metallica fans.
Had It All, Lost It, Got It Back, Gave It Away, Now I Want It Again
But It's Gone - God I hope this turns up on the new album. Not that
I've actually heard it, but the Planes have always excelled at titles,
and this one's just irresistable....
