Can I just say that i'm really looking forward to hearing the 'new' band
playing 3 tracks tonight...

Don't know if Chris can give us a 'heads up' on what songs are being aired
in advance??

Cheers Paul, Doom Bar will be enough to help me, at least, keep the
Fleece's coffers healthy. Couldn't expect a venue like that to stock more
than one or two ales on a regular basis

It's a tough one for Chris, I guess. Real Ale takes more expertise to
handle and doesn't last as long as the banal continental gas, and the
afficionados of the former tend to be a lot more 'fussy' about it than
those of the latter, but they will have it, if the Seven Stars is next
door, so it is a difficult financial tightrope to be walked. I'm a
relative tourist, Bristol wise, but love to be there, 'planes gigs giving
me most of my excuses to do so. Can't imagine Bristol without the Seven
Stars, though; it, and the rejuvenated Fleece seem to be an oasis of life
in that corporate quarter.

They might have bought Fiddlers, and have the Apple Tree, and it's
'CLOSED' sign dangling at a crazy angle, as competition ? But they didn't.

Hope to see some from here, there at the Fleece, in December. 'Cry
Freedom, and the Seven Stars !'.

G

Its Chris who keeps us up to date with BA news here who is the main man
running the place, and doing a grand job I must say.  I was chatting to
him quite a while back and he was saying that having such a good pub next
door is hurting their profitability as a venue as they are taking some of
what would normally be their bar take.  I must admit that I usually have
at least one in the Seven Stars before a gig as its such a convenient
place to meet up and pick up/give tickets off/for your mates, but I also
try and keep the Fleece's coffers oiled as well!

Its a bigger shame that there isn't a bigger choice of ales in the Fleece
as us old'uns remember when they brewed their own beer on site.  Their
Dogbolter has a legendary status amongst Bristol beer aficionados - that
stuff was lovely but lethal.

The 'Planes buying and sorting out The Fleece must have been great for
business at the Seven Stars, especially on warm nights when people are
sitting outside during the support acts. So it is good that The Fleece is
putting on some proper beer as I would imagine that for most music fans, a
pint of real ale and some real music go hand in hand.

What about getting in some Bristol Beer Factory ale next time the BAs are
playing? They do some seriously fine ale and that would be a neat pairing!

Either way I will certainly be buying a pint or two in the Fleece next
time I'm there as I am keen to support the venue.

Cheers Matthew.

machines... smashing pint glasses in your mate's face... no free drinks...
VAT... ah...

Gordon - The Fleece has had Doom Bar on for quite a while now.  They also
have Bath Ales Gem in keg form.  Seven Stars next door is still an
excellent ale pub, but we need to drink in the Fleece too.  "Use it or
lose it" as you say!

Thanks Chris,

Radio 6 is a remarkable story on it's own. 'Use it or lose it........'. A
natural home for the Planes.

Only one question about the line-up for Fleece.

Will there be good ale again ?
