Chris,
I think we all very much support and thank you for keeping us 'in the
loop'.
Yes, some have grumbled that you've been telling us the new album is just
round the corner and yet another year will soon be with us without a
release.
What I hadn't realised before, but you've now clarified (though I probably
should have realised in the first place!!) is that Gerald works at his own
pace, with numerous changes of mind!!!
Please continue to keep us as informed as you've always done; we'll just
need to curb our enthusiasm and remember this is Gerald we're dealing
with!!
Whilst waiting I would point fans to the back catalogue of 'The Hold
Steady', which i can't remember anyone else suggesting.
Very BA like (talker rather than singer), though they sadly lack any of
the amazing variation that we BA fans love, they play just one single rock
mode, but they do it rather well!!!
First album 'Almost Killed me' sets the tone perfect, avoid this years
release 'Heaven is Whenever' though, rather poor to say the least....
Not sure I can make the 2nd, but hope all things work smoothly.
Thanks again Chris, keep up the good work
Gareth

Trev:
They used to serve a beer called DogBolter which was rocket fuel - do you
still serve that?
Me:
Sadly not. That was a brew from way back when the Fleece had its own
brewery on site. Bristol Best was the other one if I recall correctly.
The Dogbolter was the stronger of the two, and I can't really improve on
Trev's description - rocket fuel!
I was there last Friday night (for the excellent Hazel Mills / Revere /
Thomas Truax gig) and I'm pretty sure there was no hand pumped ale,
although they did have an "ale" on keg - I know that sounds wrong, but it
was a beer that you usually find on pump in keg form. I think it was Bath
Ales Gem, but I'd already had a couple in the Seven Stars next door (now
that IS a pub for the real ale connosuier), plus at least a couple more at
the gig, and the memory is a little hazy.
Given its history it seems wrong that the Fleece doesn't have any proper
ale on, but then the past few years going down there I've been to many
gigs where the ale either wasn't on or didn't taste great, and it was
usually either Bass or Old Speckled Hen, nothing interesting. One of the
problems with having a pub that isn't open every night and suffers from
wildly fluctuating attendances (depending on who is playing) is that
keeping an ale is more difficult.
Anyway, being a vinyl junkie (though not as bad a one as Rocker) I look
forward to the 7" single. Limited edition vinyl singles are de rigeur
nowadays, so they are just moving with the times.
I'm happy to wait for the album, whatever it ends up being called. I'd
have preferred to wait a bit longer for Altitude as well as I thought it
was a good collection of songs shoddily recorded, same with the Roundheads
disc of Cavaliers. A bit more time spend on them would have improved the
sound immensely in my opinion.
Not 100% sure I'll make this gig yet, but I'm working on it!
Many thanks to Chris for keeping us all informed - its good to have a man
on the inside! Remember guys - he may not always tell us what we want to
hear, but don't shoot the messenger.

(who has a lot of old goth mates who are wetting their pants about the
upcoming Killing Joke gig at the Fleece, which sadly I can't make either)
