I took a Tesco bag on stage with a bottle of water in it once, and it
broke.

Can I join the polythene slashers?

I was there Rocker - right at the front. It was a fantastic gig. I
believe Wojtek used a Stanley knife to slice the plastic. I tried the
same thing with my band a few years later, with a razor blade attached
to a bamboo cane. The razor blade pinged out after the first 'slash' so
we had to hang off the (industrial) plastic until it eventually started
to rip. The audience weren't too impressed but we were laughing so much
we buggered up the opening song - Hangin' Round by Lou Reed.

"You keep hangin' round me
and I'm not...... so glad you found me
You're still doing things that I gave up years ago"

Aaaah yes, sigh.... the rock 'n roll years... :-)

<<my first BA gig at the Hope Centre in Bristol in the
80's (starting their set behind a backlit polythene sheet and cutting it
to pieces with guitars )>>

I remember the band came on and played their first number behind
the polythene - Wojtek held a blade of some sort, and as he danced in
his usual maniacal / balletic way he would occasionally slash out at the
polythene, which became cut to ribbons, and eventually when the bulk of
it was shredded, the band joined in and pulled the remainder down - the
NME reviewed it with the strapline "Exploding! Plastic! In Bristol!"

I wonder how many on this list were there? Or if it was videod?
(Possibly a bit early for that sort of technology at a gig - but am sure
Gerard would have wanted the work of art preserved for posterity - or
maybe its very transience was part of its appeal)

        Rocker (pretentious, moi?)
