It was a good night. Short set from the Planes though - a mere 7 songs, all from Harvester, and not much over half an hour. Set list was:

Fireball
Hotel Room
Outdoor Miner
Stop This Train
Free Four
Stranded
Taking Some Time On.

The written set list on the stage had Stagger Lee in place of Outdoor Miner, but it seems that Gerard changed his mind whilst on stage, maybe because Stagger Lee is quite long, they were quite late on stage, and the venue has a very strict music curfew (problems with the neighbours).

Ok - yes - I nabbed a set list off the stage after the gig. You'd think I'd have grown out of such behaviour at my age. Second time at this year too. But I digress.

The band was the same line-up that's being doing the rounds for a while, all except the absence of Max Noble. Just 2 guitars! Special mention to John Langley - utterly awesome drumming as per.

The special edition of Harvester looks lovely. It has a thick card gatefold cover, and its own paper bag (with the Harvest logo with a plane added) LIT series style. One extra track is listed - Stagger Lee goes to Hell. The CD is one of those black ones, and is a vinyl record replica, right down to having grooves in the top surface! However, none of the "normal" CD players in my house, including my ancient Denon which will usually read anything, will recognise it. The only place that does is my PC, so from my crappy little PC speakers I can tell you that its more of a psychedelic wig-out version of Stagger Lee, without as much vocal.

There was a free CD given out as well - 2 tracks each my Gerard Starkey, Saturation Point and the Planes (Beautiful Is and 162 Streets). A quick cursory listen reveals that Beautiful Is is either a different mix or a different recording to the Altitude version.

I'm pretty sure they didn't sell out of the Special Edition of Harvester, so Sam may be amenable to orders, or they may just hold them until the Fiddlers gig. However, lets get the CD issue sorted first - does anyone else who bough it have the same problem?

Oh, and ex-Planes Rodney and Shaun McCrindle were in the audience. Shaun was giving out flyers for his solo gig at the Thunderbolt on Friday 9th November. It seems that Gerard will also be doing a Thursday DJing residency there.

There were a couple of other things I was going to mention but I can't remember what they were, so you may well hear from me again later!

What a jolly good show last night. Highlights for me were "Outdoor
Miner" (I've got Wire's original on a single), "Stranded" (I saw The
Saints do this many years ago), and Kevin Ayers' "Stop This Train"
(which reminded me to restart collecting his albums).

Great evening completed by meeting an old friend I hadn't seen in
years and buying my copy of the numbered, limited edition version of
"Harvester".

Looking forward to the Christmas gig.
