Harvester thoughts

Some random thoughts on _Harvester_...

I'm just not a fan of much of the 60s psychedelic scene so some of the
guitar wankery bugs me a bit. However, there are at least two
unqualified successes: "Stagger Lee" and "It Didn't Work Out". The
former harkens back to an earlier BA folky style and Gerard's delivery
is perfect. The latter is an inspired cover - I've never heard the
original and if I hadn't known I would've thought it was written by
Gerard.

It's hard to be objective about the two punk covers, "Outdoor Miner"
and "(I'm) Stranded", because they've been a staple for me for years.
These versions are fun, though the Wire cover isn't a patch on Lush's
version.

"Maisie" is pretty good as well, though it goes on a bit.

So half of it I quite like, and the other half has it's moments. Not a
major work in the canon but still enjoyable.

Oh, and I managed to get a promo CDR for the single and I highly
recommend folks downloading the unique tracks. The new version of
"Beautiful Is (As Beautiful Does)" is decidedly better than the
original and "Stars In Your Crown" is fantastic and deserves better
than being a digital-only obscurity.

Next week brings the reissue of the Art Objects album, yay!

Mitch
