The Ostrich is a rather nice pub, plenty of room to sit outside by the docks and watch the world go by, or just stare at the nice boats in Bathhurst Basin. You really need to be in the square itself to see any gig there though. I tried to watch a Massive Attack gig there last summer from just the other side of the river, and it was too quiet, too far away, and the sound wasn't great.
The graffiti on the side of the Thekla is a Banksy one IIRC. Legend has it that it was put there without the Thekla's permission and the harbourmaster was annoyed. The club actually liked it and wanted to keep it but the harbourmaster came and painted it over, so the harbourmaster, not Banksy, ended up being sued for criminal damage! Don't think it ever came to court though. I think it got redone afterwards.

Thekla.
