Gordon:
Excellent news. Not sure whether I'll make 30th or not, but would kind of
like to. I remember the Lloyds TSB Piazza striking me as quite Orwellian
/Victory Squarish when I wandered the Docks on Good Friday, but also that
it
woud make a great music amphitheatre.
Me:
They've held quite a few concerts there in the past, some free, some where
they've fenced the whole area off and charged to get in. Not exactly sure
how this one is going to work. It'll most likely either be completely free
or you'll have to pay to get into the wider Harbourside Festival area of
which the gig will be a small part. I can remember seeing Misty In Roots
play a great set in the pouring rain some years ago!
Gordon:
Roy Wood brought a Big Band to Cropredy some years back, and rocked.
On the merry way back to the tents, some wag started on ' Good-bye
Black-berry Waayyyy....' and all of a sudden 10,000 people were on it, in
the pissing rain (think Richard Thompson must have been on site ).Priceless
!
Me:
I was there too! IIRC, Thompson got up and played with Wood's band, or more
likely that Wood's band joined Fairport for a section of their main set, and
they played an amazing version of I Heard It Through The Grapevine with
Thompson on lead vocals and guitar.
Gordon:
Incidentally, John Martyn plays that Festival this year, so if any of you
friendloverplanes get to that one, you'll find me somewhere down the front
at that point, wearing a smile !
Me:
I went last year, and have been many times in the past, but I don't think I
can afford it this year. Am going to the Wickham Festival for the first
time the weekend before instead - Thompson is playing there, which is the
main reason!
