Hmmm, I may have to play around now with different computers, just in the name of technological curiosity ;) 



I think the way it works is that you get mp3s or wmas direct from
the disk. What you can't do straightforwardly is play, or copy, the
decent quality CD audio.

Of course, it's actually easy enough to copy that if you do a little
bit of searching around. Just a pain.
