Mornin'!
Had a beer or three yesterday then, fired a million questions at Gerard and got a few answers for you all... Some people will know some of this but I thought I'd better get it all covered! By the way, if any of you were anywhere near Mannet Street last night and went to see Steve Winn (Wynn? WINE??!) at The Borderline, Gerard went there afterwards so you could have actually found some of this out for y'selves... I did think to text Chris and ask him to tell you all via his mac, but then I thought, nah, sod the lot of ya! ;o) xxx
Oh, and we got a bird in the pub to take a photo of us both together so that you can see that we are not, in fact, the same person! Gerard pitched it to this poor girl as, "Excuse me, would you mind just taking a photo of me and my friend - there are people who don't believe we exist"! Which is not exactly what I explained, but hey-ho, it was a long afternoon!
SO!
First things first. I told Gerard about people booking hotels and tickets and things for the Fiddlers gig and he was so sorry! Bit his bottom lip and everything! He re-itterated that he definitely never confirmed the gig to them and that they just assumed the BA's would play. He's really sorry that people are now out of pocket and dissappointed and sends his total apologies. He added that if any of you just come up to him at the Borderline, he will be happy to give you his entire back catalogue of rare Aeroplanes stuff and buy you drinks all night, maybe even take you out to dinner and a show after... (Okay, I just made that bit up. But, honestly, I think you should all push for it!)
Swagger's out in January, then Altitude will be out in March. Both on EMI (a THREE record deal attached purely to Blue Aeroplanes stuff, not things he may want to record outside of the BA's). The 2nd CD in the Swagger rerelease is a compilation of all the EP tracks from Jacket Hangs and You Are Loved, plus a dance mix of And Stones, some demo or other with Michael Stipe's vocals tweeked, an electric version of Careful Boy and a hurdy gurdy(?!?! I know!) version of Love Come Round. 13 tracks in all... guess which ones I've never heard of!?!
The gig at The Borderline is 31st January. Borderline-up (see what I did there?!) is:
Gerard
Wojtek (yes, he had to spell that for me!)
Rodney
Lovely John Langley (Daaaww)
Joe Allen (Strangelove)
Julian Pransky-Poole (Strangelove. Strange name!)
Max Noble
And possibly Alex Lee (if he's not busy with Placebo, which is something he's been asked to do, or something...) and also possibly Angelo if he's not Massive Attacking.
Then there will be this tour thing starting in March - no Rodney as he's (*ahem*) "busy", but Gerards got other options which may or may not include just incorporating John Langley's current instrumental band into the Blue Aeroplanes. He's not sure yet where the venues will be, some dates in Europe, definitely. I really did impress on him that the American fans would LOVE a gig or two and and suggested that as it's only £99 to get to New York and as long as there's him, Rodney and John, then he could pretty much hire session musicians for the rest of the line up and give the Americans something to get excited about too. He looked thoughtful and ponderous... so watch this space I guess. :o)
Gerard IS also going to the States in March anyway to do something called, "South By South West" (which is why he thought a few gigs around it would be possible). I don't know much about it, I'm sure they have a website! It's a pretty shit-hot music industry thing by all accounts and he's been asked to play there. So anyone in Austin, Texas may just be in luck if it's open to the likes of us ordinary punters! I'd say, Google it.
It's possible that they may release "Bagpipe Music" on CD (who was it who asked that?), but it's quite dependant on Simon Edwards, who own's/has the only copy of/was given rights to all the Art Objects stuff - or something!?! ... (I have no idea what I'm writing here by the way, its all verbatim!). I said that someone on the list has been asking for it for ages, he said it could be done...
Website!
Lots of plans coming together. Too much to write down but it's all good! Nora, if you are still here, can you email me or Gerard please lady? :o)
And Mr. Steve "List-Master" Thomas, I will be in yer Inbox presently too! ...Oh. Actually, no I wont, I've just checked and I havent kept any emails with your address on them! Can you possibly email me at chipaway@th...freeserve.co.uk when you can my lovely? That'd be grand, I have a question to ask you... :o)
(Sorry everyone else - I didnt mean that to sound all pretentious and secretive, just that I'm here, this is a VERY long email and this seemed like the quickest way!)
Lastly, does anyone in Bristol know of a good, secure rehearsal space where bands can leave their equipment set up?
Christ! I'm knackered now! I need mocha and a ciggie!
Think that's everything...?
Yeah.
Cool.
Okay then.
Bye!
Lis
