I'm still here... watching... waiting... wavering... and other words
that start with 'wa'
You know me, don't say anything if you ain't got anything to say (Ha ha
ha HAAAA)! I didn't go so can't comment on the Thekla. To be honest,
even though you and friends otherwise have convinced me that you would
never know you were on a boat ("Lis, it's been there for years", "Lis,
Ive been to it hundreds of times, don't be such a twat", I still don't
think my nerves coulda taken it. What can I say, I'm a total pansy!
Just have to get a few influential friends of my own to recreate it
next time I'm anywhere near a bit of water and a sound system...
(Ummm.... so that would be like, a paddling pool at a kareoke party or
something?!?!)
I'm telling you, the drunker I got, the more I would have KNOWN!!
I do exist, honest.
Love,
Me

As an aside, I also went to the Massive Attack/ Portishead/ etc gig on
the Sunday, and I must admit that it also was a rather special evening.
Angelo played with Massive, and another former Plane Alex Lee did a
short acoustic spot with Patrick Duff at the start of the gig.
Even though Robert Plant knocked out a couple of Zeppelin classics
(Black Dog and Whole Lotta Love) and Massive Attack did an excellent
Karmacoma and were joined by Liz Frazer for Teadrop, Portishead were
the stars of the night. Mostly stuff from Dummy, and absolutely
impeccable.
Even managed to blag into the after show party. What it is to have
influential friends....

Saw Gerard today - gig's on, lots of ladies playing with him(!!!),
don't know time but it's a tenner to get in and definitely at the
Thekla [ARRRGGHH!]. Definitely Rodney, no Angelo. (And the Massive
Attack/Portishead [yaaaawn!] gig is an acoustic thing apparently. Both
gigs are part of a 4-part thing all happening on same weekend for the
Tsunami charity - one rock [this one!], one jazz [no idea who's playing
that], one something else [even less idea] and one blatently worth
missing [see above!].)
More to type, but this ain't my PC and I'm spending someone else's
money on here so I'll write it tomorrow if telewest haven't cut me off!
Book yer planes 'n' that! Feb 19th [Unless you'll be in Canada ;o) ]

For those thinking of travelling far, the Planes won't be playing a full
set, as they did at Fiddlers, at this gig. Probably half to 3/4 of an
hour.
Other bands playing are Gonga and The Heads.

Coach firm? You could walk it 10 minutes!
And as for taking gigs too seriously - you can NEVER take music too
seriously. I'm studying rock'n'roll at Uni for gawd's sake!
For the Massive/Portishead gig they are hinting at all sorts of special
guests and collaborations. Could be the only time that ever happens, so
likely to an interesting gig if it all comes off.
Pick a gig, any gig.....

Unless Massive play first, at say eight o'clock and then allowing for a
bit of good ol' fashion' ligging and back slapping, punt across, down or
through the Bristol night to the Thekla in time to plug and play.
Or maybe if MA are so much tardier than our own boys in blue, THEY play
at eight, and we'll ALL punt across, down or through
the.....................................................................
..........
Anybody know a cheap, reliable coach firm in Brizzle.

If Massive are playing then I guess we can count Angelo out as a BA's
guitarist

Oh b*gg*r.
Now what do I do? I now know how the other Nick W felt with the Fall
gig
last time. Unfortunately, with 2 major bands to get through, I doubt
whether the same 2 gigs in the same night trick is going to be a
possibility. Massive Attack's reputation for unpunctuality even
supercedes
that of the Aeros.
Well, not being in Bristol all that much means that the Academy gig
will
sell out before I get a chance to buy a ticket anyway.
Grrrrr.

I see that Massive Attack and Portishead are doing a
charity gig the same night at the Bristol Academy...
