Ah! Compilation tapes. Done one or two thousand of them meeself over the
years, fantastic the way golden nuggets get unearthed, played copied and
listened to.But was it Lisa that mentioned the Cardboard Box/chilled frog
wine/deep hot bath thing a while back ? 'cause it reminds me of a weird
thing that happened on the way to the Buttermarket in January.
I was pootling up the M1 en route for the M6-M54 thing, listening to one
of my compilations, same thing, mixture of popular and obscure, when a
combination of the higher state sometimes experienced by the meeting of
driving and music, and the lack on this occasion of my navigator caused me
a slight detour;
a track started, jingly guitar, met by an echoing rythm then a soft
insistent bass.
What is this? For a moment I couldn't place it.
Then 'start at the end....' and I got it ! It's the Aero's ! and I'm
gonna see them tonight ! and I punched the air in delight just as the M6
junction spiralled off to my left and the signpost shouted Nottingham,
Sheffield, The North.
It was actually a precursor to another hour of navigational nightmare,
but since Nev threw a great party, and Gerard does make exceedingly good
music i'll skip the minutii.
Suffice it to say i'll only make Bedminster in December if my navigator
can get the day off.
  regards G

  Oh! and Mark E Smith.
The Beeb insure their integrity by bringing him on to eulogize on John
Peel and he says .......
  ............... practically NOTHING !

Not half as much fun as it is to write them!!

I'm honestly not as stupid as I make out, but somehow, when it comes
to posting stuff here, it's just easier for me to waffle on about crap and
act like I don't really know what I'm talking about - learned from an
early age that having blonde hair has it's advantages when you only know
half of something... or something! It makes sense in MY head anyway! I
have a 136 IQ in real life, me!

Yes, Fuzz Against Junk - that was it. I guess 'Police Against Heroin'
was was taken! Nearly managed to blag a copy of Lit yesterday and it
would've been signed! (...and admit that until yesterday, I didn't really
get the concept of it! It's bloody genius innnit?! The cover is gorgeous
and it comes in a little 1970's penny sweet bag - lovely!). However,
Gerard wasn't parting with it, even though between him and Anne they have
FOUR copies!! Isn't that kinda a bit stupid when there's only 50 to go
round?! (I did make this point, but even blonde hair and big eyes can't
work miracles when it comes to a man and his art! Damn it!). Anyway,
that's reminded me, Lit 2 will be on sale at the gig (saw a copy
yesterday, it's all gonna be part of a 10 CD set. There's a Kurt Cobain
piece on it... or was that Lit 1? - OH I DON'T KNOW!) and he told me to
tell you, so job done! (£15 from the man that designs it... Sam, I think?
he'll be there anyway, with his little bag of tricks.)

And I think there's already a DJ - but I can ask if you like? :o)

Right - it's my birthday on Saturday, so back to making tapes... All
popular stuff, not a Blue Aeroplanes track in sight, wooops! (Can I just
share that in the middle of a very serious compilation tape, I've put in
9-5 by Dolly and it's made me laugh all morning!)

    Bless you people.

So I'm forgiven? Absolved by way of Macky and the boys? Top! :o)
[And HOW unexpected was the shooting of Connie??!! I nearly fell off
    the sofa!]

Saw Gerard yesterday - he was in London having a meeting with some guy
who's interested in re-releasing Swagger.. or else it was about the
release of Altitude (the new CD).. or something... He had a big bag of
all the Aeroplanes stuff with him and waffled on for ages trying to
explain to me why, but I'm a simple fan and got a bit blinded by
science to be honest! I think it was about a few things, all geared
towards getting CD's (new, old and/or a singles album) released... but
it will come as no surprise to learn that after the third round, I
changed the subject! (Have learned that if you don't do this
eventually, the man will enter Pop World for the whole night and I
    don't really speak the language!)

Any road up, a few extra's which I am allowed to report... According
to Gerard, Altitude is his best album since Swagger. He loves it, very
proud of it and guess what - there's an aeroplane on the cover.

December gig - Get there early-ish coz there's two supports! No
waiting around freezing yer tits off in silence til 11pm this year
apparently, hooorah! First support is a young lady who's getting a
bit
of a name and has various named musicians etc. playing with her and
wanting to work with her, second support is ummm.... I forget - but
Gerard says they're brilliant - Fuzz something or other... (Flakey?
ME??!). Ooooh, and the reason that they have gone on so late in
recent
years is, he says, because the guy that runs The Fiddlers always puts
the time back as long as people are still coming through the door!
Gerard said he's always ready to go on from about 9.00, but this Irish
guy is always telling him to hang on another half hour. That would
    explain a few things then!

I confessed about the questions interview thing and he laughed!
Sensibly suggested that I should have taken the questions with me
yesterday and we could've done it then. State the bleedin' obvious,
why don't ya! We've arranged to do it over the phone one night next
week, so it's in the bag. I did say I'd post them to him and he could
just answer them and post it back, but he reckons that the answers
would be too constructed that way, not natural enough (*sigh*)! (And
don't even get me started on 'why can't you email them to him?" -
computers + Gerard...? I'd have more luck teaching my gran to
    break-dance!)

And that's about it. Yet another long post - but you made it!
    Cheers!
    Lis
