I'm sure we've all got somebody's Peel session somewhere. I can't claim
to have followed his radio show that avidly but I've got loads to thank
him for. In particular, he championed Tangerine Dream in the early 70s,
who are one of my favourites. And, of course, he was always a big
advocate of The Fall.

He was one of those broadcasters who was always going to be there.
Strange now that he's not. Irreplaceable, of course.

I think that all of us lovers of non-mainstream music are sad at the
moment
following the death of John Peel. The broadsheets seem to have gone to
town
on him today, and quite right too. Someone has said that he's the most
important or influencial person in popular music of the past 40 years,
and
for non-mainstream music its difficult to argue against that. He also
came
across as a thoroughly decent, likeable human being, who just happened
to be
    extraordinarily passionate about music.

He will be missed by musicians as much as listeners.

    RIP John.
