Not the Aeroplanes one (sorry to get your hopes up) but an Aeroplanes
related one that I've mentioned previously that is happening this Friday
(8th October) at The Cube in Bristol. Let me know if you're going and we
can meet in the bar there.
Hazel Winter (former plane) and her band are the headline (see
www.hazelwinter.co.uk where you can watch a couple of videos) and I'm sure
you're all fed up about me going on about how good she is.
Support is from the Forest Giants, who feature another former plane, Ruth
Cochrane, on bass. I've only heard their single "Postcards" so far, which
is very good indeed. There's a website at www.forestgiants.co.uk and a biog
below. Ruth is still playing as well as ever, you'll all be glad to hear.
The other support for the night is a solo spot from Joe Volk of the highly
rated Gonga.
Forest Giants - Biography
Forest Giants are from Bristol, England. They are a four piece band formed
by former members of two of Bristol?s most creative and successful bands.
Bass player Ruth was bass player for the Blue Aeroplanes during their early
years, and played on the seminal ?Spitting Out Miracles? album. Drummer Tom
and guitarist Tim played together in the Beatnik Filmstars, between them
appearing
on five John Peel sessions as well as touring extensively in the US with
Flaming Lips, Superchunk and Guided by Voices. The current full line up of
the band is:
Ruth Cochrane - Bass
Tim Rippington - Guitar, Vocals
Tom Adams - Drums
with
Paula Knight - additional Keyboards and Violin
The first Forest Giants album, ?In Sequence? was released in March 2004
together with a 7? single version of the song ?Postcards?. Both received
significant airplay and some fine reviews, with BBC 6Music?s Gideon Coe
being sufficiently impressed that he asked the band to play live on his
daytime show soon after. They also recorded a four-song session for
Bristol?s Star FM at about the same
time.
The band have recently recorded a new 6-track EP entitled ?UFO Stories?
which will be released in October 2004, and are currently working on their
new full-length LP ?Welcome to the Mid-West?.
