thanks Paul for news of Ruth's Forest Giants record, i hope i hear it one
day somehow. As i live at the edge of a forest i can relate to the concept
..

Ruth and I joined the band at the same time. We were playing in an 8 piece
Bristol band with two bassists called Big Bad Sound. Gerard came to see us
do a Miner's Benefit at the Montpelier Hotel, the place was packed and he
kind of asked us over for an audition. dont think Ruth went, but i took my
12 string guitar along to his house in Redland and played what was to
become Ceiling Roses into a 4 track recorder. Got the gig! We had about
two rehearsals then played the Ansom Rooms supported by Brilliant Corners,
and then to a massive gig at Glastonbury on the then Stage Two. Previous
to that Ruth and I had been in a couple of other bands, the Talking Heads
inspired Shantih Shantih, and a Durutti Column sounding duo called
Doublethink. While she was in the Aeroplanes we made lots of promos,
toured in the UK and abroad, esp memorable was Berlin (from what i
remember Ruth had to fly there separately to the rest of the band, who
went in a van, as she had forgotten her pastport at Dover) , and also
played on the Old Grey Whistle Test, from Glasgow. The guy who drove us
to Berlin was .. the other bassist in the Big Bad Sound. Bristol for you!
