Gerard at Ashton Court & on the radio

"Endearingly shambolic" would be a good way of describing the Ashton Court show!  They only found out during the week before that they were on, stepping in for a late cancellation, and were still discussing exactly what to play minutes before they went on!  PV2 has mentioned all the tracks that I remember, although Jack Leaves and Back Spring was also in there early on.

I spoke to Gerard earlier today and he will be a guest on my radio show next Tuesday evening (29th).  The show runs between 7 and 10pm, and I expect I'll have Gerard on in the 2nd half some time.  He's promised an exclusive play of a track or two off the Planes album, which I'm looking forward to (any requests?) and we should be able to have a good chat (any questions you'd like answered?)  I had Patrick Duff on the show earlier this week, which went exceptionally well - a really good interview and he did 4 tracks live in the studio - just him and an acoustic.

The show can be picked up in Bristol on 87.7 FM or on the internet at www.kuteradio.com .  If any one of you lovely Bristol people would like to give me a hand that evening by giving the man a lift up to Kingswood and back to do the interview I would really appreciate it - and you'll have the chance to witness the interview first hand.  My usual chauffeur is busy that night!  Either e-mail or call me on 0771 313 4491.

Lastly, I picked up a flyer for Fiddlers whilst at the Bristol Ticket Shop yesterday, and it lists the Planes playing on Friday 5th December.  One for the diaries.....

Finally got around to a few lines on Gerard's gig at Ashton Court last Saturday. He was joined on stage by Rodney Allen on acoustic guitar, and Joff Lowson on the mandolin, and together they played to a packed classical tent - people were fighting to get in! I missed the first track - 'Broken & Mended', apparently, but managed to catch the rest. We were treated to acoustic renditions of 'The Applicant', 'Spitting Out Miracles', 'King of the Soap Box' (not played for ten years, apparently), '10,000 Miles', 'Jacket Hangs' and 'Had it All...' (to hoots of laughter at the full title). There may have been more but this is why I should have written this earlier! All were received with rapturous applause, and after demanding an encore we got 'Love Come Round'. The whole thing worked pretty well - a bit sketchy in places, but that's the charm - and the crowd loved it. Gerard seemed pretty pleased, so we can only hope it will spur him on to doing some more gigs. Shame Rodney didn't sing us a few of his own, but maybe next time.
