... I don't think anyone has adequately answered the question. Gene Krupa
was not only some old jazz drummer. He brought the jungle rhythm to
mainstream music. (Most notably as the drummer on 'Sing Sing Sing' by
Benny Goodman - and if you aren't familiar with that song, you need to get
out from under your rock more often.) He was copied by just about
everyone in the 30s and 40s. Rock drumming (nor rock&roll) wouldn't be
what it is without his influence. Keith Moon was indeed one of his many
disciples (Moon being probably the greatest rock drummer ever) - the wild
thrashing easily traced back to Mr. Krupa.
