We both know my dad is CEO of Sony Music. I'll thank you not to rub it
in. More Mariah Carray, anyone?

Sorry, I wasn't as clear as I ought to be... the people on the list
(among others) are people what I feel _I_ ought to like. I mean
c'mon...
McCartney's a damn fine musician. But for my money, he's been doing
the same thing over and over for years. I can't get behind it.
Eric Clapton... the man knows one end of the guitar from the other,
obviously. He's played some great stuff as a sideman (for example, his
work on George Harrison's "Cloud 9" is fantastic). But as a solo act?
If I want to listen to Muddy Waters, I'll put a Muddy Waters rekkid on
the turntable. For me to listen to EC, he needs other people to draw
out the part of him that makes him interesting to listen to.
Elvis Costello. This is a guy I WANT to like. I really really want to
like him. He writes well, he plays well, he gets good musicians, he
does great arrangements, and his production jobs are cool. But his
VOICE MAKES ME WANT TO TAKE HOSTAGES JUST SO HE'LL STOP. It just gets
under my skin. If he starred in a movie, I'd probably go see it. He
did an album of instrumental music, published a book or a volume of
poerty, I'd buy it. But just don't sing. Please.
Bob Dylan falls into the EC catagory for me too.
Nirvana just bored me. I'd heard that before when I was in high school
listening to the Pistols, the Jam, etc.
Perl Jam just seemed like a younger version of The Stones. Nothing for
me to groove on there, either. Well, if Perl Jam make their own "Exile
On Main St." I may have to get that...
I've only recently gotten an appreciation for The Smiths after living
in the UK. But I still have a hard time with them.
This is just me. My musical taste is my musical taste and y'all wanna
groove on the sound of a washing machine in the spin cycle, fantastic.
Let me know what you're listening to and I'll give it a go myself.
Have a fab weekend, all...
-Doc
P.S. Any Man Or Astro-Man? fans around here?
