I resent having to excuse myself because some folks forget how to laugh,
but
what Paul wrote below is what I'm getting at. Those of you that said you
appreciated brass eye etc. can't possibly be seriously wounded by a little
exaggeration, surely?
In my opinion, the 2 most annoying gig habits are the shouting for songs
thing and talking through quiet bits. Aside from Sebadoh and Modest mouse
(and clearly some other bands) bands have set lists which they play
through.
I was in London before christmas to see Low who are VERY quiet and the gig
was greatly effected by gathered music journalists, who got in free,
talking
at the back. I drove for 2 hours to see that gig, and paid more than ten
quid to get in. Don't I deserve to resent those people?
Here is a sample of potenially offensive text that is merely a comment
wrapped up in words. It is not meant to make anyone cry, it is a way of
drawing a common theme between us, and wondering why no-one seems to have
moved forward. It is written in a mock aggressive way, react if you
will...
I love the blue aeroplanes a great deal, and have wondered about the 'your
ages' lyrics (i mentioned it as my favourite song right at the start), but
I
live in the present and am also interested in NOW. i won't leave the
list,
because there is far too much good stuff here, but there is some kind of
amish thing going on with most post '80's bands. Did you stop buying
music
everyone? I would have thought a blue aeroplanes fan would be the sort
who
constantly looked for new sounds. Still, we are all just 27-37 year old
teachers, and maybe that's the point, (last bit nicked from brass eye,
source fans)
I'm sorry i tried to be funny in reaction to the spazpecker comment.
Don't
leave Phil, i don't know who you are. I'm off to see the band in
Portsmouth
and if you'll let me, I'll let you know what it was like.
All the best
John parsons
ps don't you just love getting loads of emails about something you care
about? It sure isn't a chore to read 'em.
WHAT PAUL WROTE:
I am not condoning what I have seen on this list, but
I thought I might share some experiences and I hope it
is taken light-hartedly.
I saw the aeroplanes with the church around 90. An
ill-advised, ever so annoying mosh pit ensued during
the Church show. Guess who was being passed around
from person to person? None other than Gerard
Langley, and I assume under his permission.
I went to see the wedding present one time with a few
friends, one of which owned their entire catalogue.
This friend of mine wanted to tape the show. During
the show, this same friend did all of the no-nos:
incescant screaming for songs, quips about rock and
roll tricks, and even pulling at my hairs and poking
fun at me when I started enjoying myself. It took all
of my restraint to not take a swing at him. His tape
was nothing more than "your the man's" interspersed
with music. Real cheesy, and he admitted so.
We have it real bad down hear when it comes to
concerts: people making that peace sign (sometimes the
wrong way which seems to annoy non-Americans) and
moshers.
Paul
