More than once, I've been to shows where some arse-head gets it into
his lagered-up noggin to start thrashing around as though this is a
GOOD thing. Hell, I've seen mosh pits at Webb Wilder shows, and that's
something I just do not understand.

The last time I saw the Aeros live was in '97 at Fiddler's Elbow or
Green or whatever the venue is called in North London. The support was
Loreli (Susie Hug on gutiars and vocals, Jake Kyle on bass, and I can'
remember the names of the other two people in the band). Twice during
their set, Susie had to stop the show and tell idiots in the front to
SHUT UP. They were so lound, she couldn't hear herself through the
stage monitors.

The Aeros came on later, and several of us moved up to the front. We
were standing there, drinking our beers, enjoying the show... and out
of nowhere, this group of lagerlads in their war-victim Ceasar haircuts
start smashing into each other, buttons popping of their Ben Sherman
shirts like bullets. I moved off to the side, so I could watch the
show. Some fuckwit got a little to close to me, and took a poke at me.
I grabbed his arm and put my elbow into his throat, I was so angry. I
left shortly thereafter, completely disgusted.

True, I've been to some good live shows since... but I'm so annoyed
with these children who think that streetfighting is a form of dancing.

-Doc, who's a nice guy, really he is, and who has no problems with
dancing but can't dance himself because he's way too selfconcious.

n.p. David Bowie, "Heroes"

P.S. The last time The Wonder Stuff played in Chicago, they did a show
at the Vic with Chapterhouse as support. As soon as the Stuffies
started, people started moshing and surfing. After the first tune,
Miles Hunt looked out on the crowd and said, "Oh, yes. America. The
mosh pit. Crowd surfing. Stay on the floor, you fuck heads. People
are paying money to see our beautiful faces, not your hairy arses!"
Next tune starts... and the surfing goes on unabated. After that tune
ends, Miles (never a loss for words) says, "Ever notice how it's always
the boys who start these things? Never the girls? Probably some need
to compensate for not getting any. Tell you what lads, why don't you
make your way across the street, buy yourselves a girlie mag, and have
a wank? We can wait until you're through." No more moshing for the
rest of the show.

Now that's crowd control.
