It's funny how gigs and alcohol can make you into a fascist (this is me
I'm talking about!):
I was once at an Ozric Tentacles gig and some guy was dancing right in
front of me and all over my feet. I wasn't really that bothered but I
thought I'd give him a little shove in the back so he would know I was
right there under his DMs. Unfortunately he was off-balance, or I was,
because the next thing you know he's flying across the room and into other
people. And then HE apologised to ME for dancing. The shame still haunts
me.
One of the scariest gigs I ever went to was Radiohead at Northampton
Roadmender. Never has the phrase "a sea of people" been more appropriate.
Bodies just surged around the place and, being a shortarse, it was all I
could do to stay the right way up. My feet literally did not touch the
floor for minutes at a time. I left in fear for my life. Funny enough,
the very next night the Aeros played in the bar at the Roadmender to about
fifty people and were fantastic, Gerard and Rodney jumping down into the
crowd in the middle of a song and carrying on playing. One extreme to the
other.
