Paul,
You were almost right. In fact, he is superb. Head honcho of
best-band-in-the-world-not-to-be-called-the-Blue-Aeroplanes, The Bible (3
real albums, including the delicious 'Eureka' and the just released,
posthumous, 'Dodo', and several compilations), now a solo artist with
three
albums to his name (Ignorance, Baptist Hospital and Thanksgiving - getting
better with each one). He has also written for/with a lot of other people,
perhaps most notably Eddi Reader (Patience of Angels) and Clive Gregson,
and strangely for Mel C, Hepburn and Natalie Imbruglia. BAs connection:
he's somewhere on 'Swagger' doing backing vocals, and the final riff on
'Colour Me' is identical to one in The Bible's 'Cyrstal Palace'. If you
like your melancholy supremely well-crafted and beautifully sung, with
cannily deployed additional musicians, take your first step on the
slippery
slope by having a look at the Haven Records site:
