Jesus Jones were the first band I can remember that sounded like that. I
remember them being touted as influenced by hip hop and Sonic Youth, and
being seen as some big new thing by (I think) Stoke's finest, Bruno
Brookes.
Although it could have been some other sad Radio 1 DJ. Anyway, I'm sure
it
was ages before EMF released anything.
