"Uncut" review of Cavaliers.

Review of "Cavaliers" in U.K. monthly publication Uncut.

The enduring Bristol mavericks - formed the same year as new hot things
The Flaming Lips, incidentally - return from a four year absence to push
amuch tin around airstrip one. they intend to release no less than five
albums this year.

Cavaliers is an aptly-named double, literate and licentious, dominated by
the 28 minute title track, which wriggles wantonly from folk to punk,
pulling the hair of most points between. Ringleader Gerard Langley purrs
of a pride of lions and a watch of nightingales and spits "Fuck it, take
our knowing analogies".

On the second disk's grand follies, out-takes and freak-outs, the closing
response piece, "Roundheads", at a mere 15 minutes, is the best. Imagine
an examination of the work ethic by T.S. Eliot over a stoned Stooged riff,
only more fun. And more serious. Shamelessly unbuckle yhose safety belts
again.

Chis Roberts.
